Yousuf Karsh

Yousuf is a photographer from the 1900s he was famous for portraits of famous people such as Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth. His work is very visualily interesting he creates this very serious tone in his work by using the very dark tones and no colour. However this also in some of his work creates a sense of deep emotion as seen in his image of Anita Ekberg where she looks happy and in the moment of complete happiness.

  1. What you have here is pretty good so far, although this entry (above) is rather short. You could do with going into significantly more detail here.

As for the other tasks that need doing, the most important are the interdisciplinary task, the photography task and the 'All time Greats' task.

    Photo Task:

    - Choose two photographers who were mentioned in the presentation
They should be working in two contrasting styles or for different audiences (e.g. Paul Strand & Robert Capa)
    - Find one piece of writing on each photographer (each should be a minimum of 500 words long)
    - Highlight what you think are the ten most important facts/ points made by the author about the artist
    - Write these in your own words on your blog (this can either take the form of a paragraph or bullet-points)
    - Compare and contrast the work of the two photographers, discussing style, imagery, meaning, and influences

    All time greats:

    Choose an interdisciplinary practitioner.

    Research:

    The practitioner
    - Life and development of practice
    - His/her work
    - Audience (who is work for?)
    - Materials/technologies (What do they use? How? Why? Is it effective in achieving their aims?)

    Production and Reception
    - Influences (What do you think has influenced the work? Events/Artists/Cultures/etc.)
    - Distribution (how is/was the work disseminated? Is it ‘multi-platform’? Is/was there an advertising campaign?)
    - Responses (How has the work been received: By audiences? By critics? By you?)

Also, there is the review task. This will help you to achieve at least one of the Merit criteria.
